Composite Bulkhead Service
Shortened build times, lighter results.
In most yacht builds after the initial hull and deck construction phase there is the need to construct a large number of bulkheads, panels and other individual table built components. If these items are to be vacuum consolidated and are wet laid up by hand first then this can be a long, messy and labour hungry procedure. Sail Ventures may be able to offer you an alternative.
As production builders of the Express 40 racing yacht, we have gained extensive expertise in one of the most efficient and high quality methods of composite construction: epoxy resin infusion (ie dry lay up then resin injection under vacuum) and would like to offer you a specialised bulkhead and panel construction service to reduce overall costs, time, wastage and VOC emissions.
As a result of our experience we have developed a method of infusing composite foam sandwich bulkheads to give a superb result, quickly and efficiently with a very tight resin to glass ratio. The method gives excellent strength through consolidation with minimum weight and perfect repeatability. We can incorporate solid plate reinforcements, various cloths, cores, flanges and unidirectional stacks in the bulkhead or panel so all that is required is to trim and final fit: saving both time and resources.
We usually work to Laminate Engineers sketches and Naval Architects' or Shipyard CAD drawings for dimensions and lay up, though we can also work to full size templates if required and have in house CAD facilities. In addition, for interior panels or enclosure construction we can supply 10 and 20mm epoxy composite flat panels (nominal 8'x4' ) in a standard or custom lay up.
